Bio PhotoNew Orleans native, soprano Angela Mannino, made her Metropolitan Opera debut in May 2010 as the 15 Year Old Girl in Berg’s Lulu upon completing two years in Lyric Opera of Chicago’s Patrick G. and Shirley W. Ryan Opera Center.  This past summer she sang Colombina in Le Donne Curiose and performed in recital with Steven Blier at Wolf Trap Opera.  This past spring she sang the role of Agrippa in the premier of John Musto’s opera, The Inspector, commissioned by the Wolf Trap Foundation.  This November marks Angela’s return to New Orleans Opera for Oscar in Un Ballo in Maschera.

In Angela’s first season at Lyric Opera of Chicago, she sang Blonde in The Abduction from the Seraglio which included a last minute debut on opening night along with an additional performance.  Other appearances at Lyric include the Maid in Manon, the 15 Year Old Girl in Lulu, the Shepherd Boy in Tosca, Giannetta in L’Elisir d’Amore and Barbarina in Le Nozze di Figaro. In summer 2009 she sang Zerlina in Don Giovanni with Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra.  In the 2007-2008 season, Angela appeared as Suor Genovieffa in Suor Angelica and Lauretta in Gianni Schicchi with New Orleans Opera.

Angela was an apprentice with Central City Opera (2005) and Santa Fe Opera (2006 & 2007).   At  Central City Opera she sang the Third Wild Goose and Fido in Benjamin Britten’s Paul Bunyan. In her apprenticeship with the Santa Fe Opera she performed the role of the First Maid in Richard Strauss’s Daphne. In the 2006-2007 season Angela made her New Orleans Opera debut as Barbarina in Le Nozze di Figaro.

Angela made her Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra debut singing excerpts from Meyerbeer’s Robert le Diable and the mad scene from Lucia di Lammermoor. She has also appeared in concert with the Northwest Indiana Symphony, Missoula Symphony, Bloomington Pops Orchestra and Brown County Pops Orchestra in concerts featuring the works of Hoagy Carmichel and as the Soprano Soloist in Mozart’s Solemn Vespers, Grand Mass in C Minor and Schubert’s Mass in G.

Angela received a Bachelor of Music from Loyola University and a Master of Music from Indiana University. While at Indiana, she sang the roles of Miss Titmouse in Edwin Penhorwood’s Too Many Sopranos, Despina in Cosí Fan Tutte, Musetta in La Bohème and Blonde in The Abduction from the Seraglio. Among several performances at Loyola, she sang Adele in Die Fledermaus and appeared in regional productions as Yum-Yum in The Mikado, Josephine in H.M.S. Pinafore as well as various musical theatre roles.

A 2011 Sullivan Foundation Career Grant Winner, Angela has received awards from the Shoshana Foundation, American Opera Society and Musician’s Club of Women.  She was awarded Third Place in the Metropolitan Opera National Council Regional Auditions, First Place in the Mobile Opera Vocal Competition and Student Grand Prize at the Orpheus National Vocal Competition.
